It Is What It Is

Zeynep Erdinç’s artistic approach is rooted in the idea that expression inherently carries both an objective and an unavoidable subjective dimension. The artist emphasizes that meaning is constructed precisely within this ambiguity and that the state of knowing or not knowing about nature and oneself forms the foundation of her work.

On Erdinç’s canvases, the acts of covering and concealing—enabled by the use of sand, sawdust, and paint—invite the viewer into a quest led by the contrasts of subjectivity and objectivity within the voids and images on the surface. These images trace what has been or what might be.

This approach highlights our state of knowing and not knowing, embodying the essence of “what is” through a visual and plastic language.
